Warwick River Mennonite Church

100 Years of Ministry

The Warwick River church began in 1897 when two Mennonite farm families moved here from Maryland and Ohio.  Another dozen soon joined them from these and other states, carving individual farms out of the old Denbigh Plantation along the Warwick River.  Over the years the farms gave way to suburbia, and the congregation has been enriched by members from many backgrounds.

As the "colony" developed, member families built a church house on the river side of Lucas Creek Road where the cemetery still lies.  An elementary school began in the church basement in 1941, then moved across the road in 1949.  The church facility rose beside the school in 1961.  Futher enlargement of the school building coincides with our centenniel year.

The athletic fields and youth building behind the church have hosted mulitple youth activities.  More recently, that building became headquarters for Warwick River Christian Childcare which is operated by the Warwick River Christian School.
