Course
Overview:
Are
you putting enough emphasis how your clients breathe? Breathing
pattern disorders limit functional performance, cause or perpetuate
chronic pain conditions and feed into tension and anxiety. Participants
will learn a program that can be applied to individual or group
work with a broad spectrum of clients spanning the very ill to
the very athletic. This course will the pull together of ideas
& information from East and West including Yoga, Qigong, Feldenkrais
and Tai Chi to develop a common framework for understanding breath.
Experience the power of breathwork to improve posture, reduce
pain, soothe mental agitation, enhance spinal stability, facilitate
learning, contribute to easeful movement and improve function.
Objectives:
1) Develop observational and palpation skills to assess respiratory
structure and function.
2) Learn appropriate approaches to breath work for a broad spectrum
of clients.
3) Teach therapeutic exercise to improve strength and flexibility
of respiratory muscles
4) Provide neuromuscular reeducation to improve proprioception,
balance, coordination and energy efficiency.
5) Use breath work to address key myofascial and joint issues.
6) Develop an approach to teaching about breath that minimizes
frustration while maximizing learning.
7) Document all techniques in the medical record.
